Lavender is mainly used in  aromatherapy  . Anxiety ,  depression  and  fatigue  can be improved to some extent by using it  . Some scientific studies suggest that lavenders contains compounds that can stimulate activity in certain parts of the brain, which can improve mood and calm the mind. Extracts and oil extracted from lavenders are mainly used in this work. Although, this work can also be done by consuming lavenders tea, but there is little research available to confirm this fact.

Research was conducted on 80 women who became mothers for the first time in Taiwan to investigate the effect of lavender tea. They were asked to drink 1 cup (250 ml) of lavender tea daily for 2 weeks. Later it was found that women who drank lavender tea had less fatigue and depression than women who did not drink lavender tea.

Research so far confirms that using or smelling lavender as aromatherapy can help you sleep better. To confirm this, scientists did research on about 158 ​​women who became mothers for the first time. In this research, it was told that women who took the scent of lavenders for about 4 days every week for 8 weeks, their sleep was improved.

A similar study was also done on 79 college students troubled by sleep problems. Their sleep quality was also found to improve when they smelled lavender. These students applied lavenders oil on their chest every night before sleeping .

On the other hand, talking about lavenders tea in this regard, solid research is not yet available in this regard. Yet scientists say that drinking lavender tea can have effects similar to those of lavenders aromatherapy. Therefore, a cup of lavenders tea can be drunk before sleeping at night.

It is common for women to have body pain during periods . In this case, using lavender can be beneficial. Specifically, the study was conducted on 200 young women in Iran. It was found that inhaling lavender for about 30 minutes on the first 3 days of menstruation can relieve painful cramps.

Another research suggests that massaging with lavenders essential oil may also help reduce menstrual cramps. On the other hand, talking about lavenders tea, there is no study available in this regard. Still, drinking lavender tea can provide some relief.

Antiinflammatory and antibacterial effects are found in lavender oil. Due to these properties, it can be used for acne , inflammation of the skin due to psoriasis and to heal wounds .

In a study done on rats, it was found that applying lavenders oil for 14 days helped in faster healing of wounds. At the same time, there is no research available regarding tea in this regard. Still, there is no harm in drinking lavenders tea in moderation.

Disadvantages of lavender tea

Drinking lavender tea may cause skin irritation, constipation , headache and vomiting in some people . Come, let’s know in detail what can be the side effects of taking it in excess –

  • Pregnant women should not drink lavender tea. It is believed that drinking it can  cause miscarriage  .
  • Some scientists believe that lavender tea has the effect of lowering cholesterol. In such a situation, if someone is taking medicine to reduce cholesterol, then drinking this tea can have a negative effect.
  • This tea itself has an anticoagulant effect, so if someone is already taking blood thinners, then drinking lavender tea with it can be harmful.


Lavender has been considered beneficial as an Ayurvedic medicine, but there is little research available regarding the tea made from it. Nevertheless, scientists emphasize that lavender tea can be consumed in limited quantities. By doing this, lavender tea can show its effect like aromatherapy. On the other hand, if someone wants to consume this tea for the first time, then he must first consult a doctor.
